Meshell Ndegeocello (born 1968) is an American singer, songwriter and bass player. She is widely recognized as one of the pioneers of the neo-soul genre.

Her music encompasses elements of funk, soul, jazz, R&B and hip-hop. Growing up playing bass in bands in Washington, D.C.’s Go-go scene, she released her influential debut album “Plantation Lullabies” in 1993. Throughout her impressive 30-year career, Ndegeocello has proven to be one of the most unique voices of Black American music. In 2021, she won a Grammy. For her critically acclaimed 2023 album “The Omnichord Real Book”, she signed to iconic jazz label Blue Note.
