Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Fisher was playing in clubs by the time he was teenager. He moved to Memphis with pianist Robert Talley’s group, and found himself part of the soul music scene around Stax and Hi Records. Relocating to St. Louis, he joined singer Leo Gooden’s band in residence at Gooden’s Blue Note club. Fisher dedicated his debut album “The Third Cup” to Gooden, and that album solidified Fisher’s reputation as one of the finest guitarists operating between jazz, rock, blues and soul in the late 1960s. He was inducted into the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame in 2004. He died aged 64.
