The New Jersey native made a mark on jazz history with his impressionist, melodic style. Part of Miles Davis’ legendary sextet in the late 1950s, he played on the modal jazz milestone “Kind of Blue” (1959). In the early 1960s, Evans recorded two seminal albums with his own trio, alongside bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian. Other important recordings followed, such as his 1963 solo album “Conversations With Myself”, as well as collaborations with Eddie Gómez in the late 1960s and Tony Bennett in the 1970s.
