Goraguer was born in Rosny-sous-Bois, but after the war, his family settled in Nice, where the young pianist played for American servicemen in bars and clubs. Goraguer was invited to study in Paris by jazz pianist Jack Diéval, where he met collaborator Boris Vian. Goraguer’s arranging career really began in 1958 when he met Serge Gainsbourg, and Goraguer went on to arrange thousands of songs and over 100 movie soundtracks. He conducted the Eurovision Orchestra in 1965 and also composed music for erotic films under the pseudonym Paul Vernon. His soundtrack to the animated movie “La Planète Sauvage” was sampled multiple times and remains a cult classic among jazz and hip-hop fans.
