London-based trio The Comet Is Coming’s second album is another slab of dark, urgent but infectious grooves proposing a 21st century mutant offspring of spiritual jazz and Afrofuturism. Shabaka Hutchings’ tightly wound tenor sax riffs propel electronic dance-floor rhythms swathed in huge clouds of sci-fi synth, creating a vibe that’s both hypnotic and dynamic – with UK poet and spoken word artist Kae Tempest making an apocalyptic guest appearance on one track.
