A fourth generation Angeleno, Saracho studied vibraphone and marimba in Los Angeles before settling on piano. He joined Herbie Baker’s quintet and the pair were associated with pianist Horace Tapscott’s spiritual collective. After Baker died in a car accident, Saracho dedicated himself to the piano and enlisted a group of stellar performers for his debut album “En Medio Saracho” in 1973. The group included bassist Roberto Miranda and multi-instrumentalist Owen Marshall, and showcased Saracho’s psychedelic Latin jazz dedication “Señor Baker.” In the 1980s, he wrote the musical “The Boys From North Broadway” and recently collaborated with producers Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad on an album of Latin soul, West Coast funk, and psychedelic rock.
